Our week has been so busy so far, we have not had time to tell you about all the great things we are doing yet.
We have exciting new reading books, which we have had good discussions about predicting what the book is about. Some children have some non-fiction books and they have been thinking about the difference between fiction and non-fiction.
We are practising writing a sentence correctly remembering to use a capital letter and full-stop. We are trying to add more detail to our sentences to make them more interesting. We have been playing games to think about adjectives e.g. The Minister’s Cat – The minister’s cat is an angry cat, The minister’s cat is a black cat, The minister’s cat is a clever cat…..
Some of us are adding some connectives (and, but, because, so) to our sentences e.g. ‘We were going to go out to play. It began to rain.’ becomes ‘We were going to go out to play but it began to rain.’
In Numeracy, we are working on our addition building up our number bonds within 5, 10 or 20. We are learning our doubles and finding out how they help us answer our ‘near double’ sums. Some children are practising putting ‘a number in their head’ so they can add on without starting from 1 each time.
This week we will have lots of singing practice for our show. We look forward to performing this to you in a couple of weeks. You could help your child learn their words by following the links I added to the blog last week. We are also making our tickets and posters for our show.
We have been thinking about Day and Night, looking at different things that happen during these times. We are reading ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’, and have talked about other animals which are nocturnal.
In PE, we are continuing to learn our social dancing with our Crown Jig and The Flying Scotsman. The children will also get a chance to make up their own dance with a partner. They could play some jig music at home and think about some moves they could do. If they make patterns of 8 to the beat – e.g. 8 claps, 8 skips etc.
