Second week of term already!
Another busy week in front of us. This week, in Numeracy, we will be looking at addition. We will be learning different strategies to help us make quicker calculations. We are thinking about the commutative rules for addition
i.e. 2 + 3 =5 so 3 + 2 = 5
We will be learning quick recall of our doubles and looking at knowing how our doubles help us do other sums too.
i.e. 2 + 2 = 4 so 2 + 3 = 5.
In Literacy, the children will receive their new reading book on Monday or Tuesday. As it is Bonfire Night, this week we will be looking at words which could describe the bonfire and fireworks which we will see. This will also inspire our Art work this week, in which we will create some great firework displays.
After our visit to Inverness Library last week, we have a lovely collection of books to add to our class library. We are using these books as part of our reading challenge, and we are beginning to have an ERIC (Everyone Reading In Class) time, in which the children are encouraged to read books independently. These books can be a reading book or library book, alternatively the children can bring a book from home to read at this time. If your child would like to bring in their own book, could you write their name inside please.
In handwriting, we have been practising our lower case letters, thinking about the correct formation and size of each letter, and this week will begin to work on the correct formation of capital letters.
This week, we will have PE on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. If your child has not brought their PE kit back to school yet, could they bring it in tomorrow please.
Our new topic this term will be Science based and we will begin by looking at Day and Night. We will think about the movement of the Earth in relation to the Sun, to find out why we have Day and Night. As a class, we will be reading the novel The Owl who was afraid of the Dark, which will encourage us to look at different ways dark is good.
